General Knowledge YouTube Channels for Kids
TED-Ed animated lessons, Khan Academy Kids for ages 2–8, and story-led yoga. Ages and what each one costs are noted.
Channels that leave a child thinking rather than just knowing. The ages here are far apart, so pick by who you are watching with.
The three
- TED-Ed (no stated age · free) — Short animated lessons on questions worth sitting with. The riddle videos in particular get children pausing the screen to think.
It suits upper primary and older. They do not state an age.
- Khan Academy Kids (ages 2–8 · free, nothing sold) — The only entry here that states an age in plain numbers — the makers say “Ages 2-8” themselves.
The app says “100% free - forever”, with no ads and no subscription. An easy one to leave running for a young child.
- Cosmic Kids Yoga (preschool–lower primary · free) — Children follow a story while moving through it. It is yoga and mindfulness, so not a knowledge channel in the usual sense.
It earns its place on rainy afternoons and before bed, when what a child needs is to settle.
FAQ
Are these channels free?
Every channel here is free to watch on YouTube. It is YouTube, so ads run. A few of them also sell an app or a membership separately, which is a different thing from the channel — where that applies, it is noted with the channel.
What ages are they for?
It is noted with each channel. Fewer channels state an age than you would expect — where the makers do not say, this guide says so. Watching a few minutes together is still the most accurate way to decide.
